From an early age, John’s musical tastes evolved from classical to the dusty grooves of classic rock and pop. He was captivated by the psychedelic sounds of the late ’60s, the soulful Motown melodies, and the high-energy Southern rock beats.
In 2003, John formed his first group, AEquitas, where he honed his skills as a songwriter and singer. Joining The Buzzkills in 2007, he became a driving force in the band’s success, touring across multiple states and gaining recognition as an original music and cover act.
Simultaneously, John nurtured his solo career as John Charles Weston, performing and composing music across the West, Midwest, and South. He now resides in Chicago, IL, balancing his time between songwriting, recording, performing, and music instruction.
In 2010, he co-founded Sklut and Weston with his songwriting partner, Tommy Sklut, achieving recognition in the Chicago original music scene. Together, they established the Sklut and Weston School of Music, providing after-school music programs for Near North Side Chicago students.
